Mission Statement
African Conflicts Response
Foundation works to build bridges and support from the
international community to sow seeds of peace in marginalized and post-conflict
communities in Africa.
Our Motivation We are driven by love and the relentless pursuit of economic and social equality for all.
Challenges Africa is a hotbed of conflict; a continent riddled with numerous forms of violence that have caused irreparable damage and acute humanitarian tragedies with far-reaching
implications for peace and stability. Fueled by poverty, hunger and disease, and sustained by an unending stream of small arms and light weapons, Africa remains an unstable and combustible region. With escalating piracy off the region's coasts, the violence has taken another dimension and poses a new challenge for both regional and international peace and security. It is a challenge that calls for bold and concerted action to mitigate the scourge of conflict and to prevent the region from becoming breeding ground for extremist activities.
The ACRF was formed to address these issues through partnerships with marginalized African communities, governmental donor agencies, foundations, corporations, and corporate supporters. We believe that by developing and empowering marginalized and post-conflict communities and facilitating dialogue to bridge bitter tribal and ethnic divides, we will sow seeds for sustainable peace in the continent. In this regard, we focus on media and advocacy, capacity building, education, primary healthcare assistance and poverty reduction programs to accomplish our mission. Our Approach In collaboration with our partners, we bring African-inspired and African-driven solutions to the economic and social problems of these communities by:
·Conducting and engaging local communities in advocacy
and outreach activities that raise awareness and transform their mindsets into
accepting a culture of peace. We harness, for instance, the educational power
of television and computers by creating Community Learning Centers where
members can access and share information, gain hands-on skills training and dialogue to build
the beloved community.
.Organizing advocacy and education workshops on
resource and particularly land conflicts management in farming
communities to help participants develop empathy, negotiation, mediation and
communication skills—the building blocks for peace.
·Engaging the power of the media to manage political and electoral violence and to serve as an early warning tool for emergencies and disasters.
·Encouraging youth and adult literacy by promoting "Food for Peace" and “School Supplies for Peace"
programs especially in communities just emerging from conflict.
·Assisting
women groups in post-conflict communities with farm tools,
seeds, and food processing equipment to promote food security and fight hunger
and malnutrition.
·Partnering with medical institutions and
pharmaceutical companies to mobilize medical supplies and equipment to
strengthen the health-care infrastructure of rural clinics and health-care
centers in urban ghettos and under-served communities.
·Working to control and decommission small arms and light weapons because their widespread abuse diverts scarce government resources from key sectors like health and education to public security, discourages domestic as well as foreign investment and deprives African countries of the skills and talents of the victims of these weapons.
